Ta Panta rhei, «everything flows» as Heraclitus* said..

Earth is alive,is moving,is geting older day by day as you are. From the begging of this world changes have been part of the life either we are talking about a biological evolution either about a geological phenomenon.

Let me show you how Earth look like the first minute of the creation..
Her name was  Pangaea, Pangæa, or Pangea (from Ancient Greek παν pan «entire», and Γαια Gaia «Earth», Latinized as Gæa) was the supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago, before the component continents were separated into their current configuration.
The name was coined during a 1926 symposium discussing Alfred Wegener‘s theory of continental drift. In his book The Origin of Continents and Oceans (Die Entstehung der Kontinente und Ozeane) first published in 1915, he postulated that all the continents had at one time formed a single supercontinent which he called the «Urkontinent», before later breaking up and drifting to their present locations.
The single enormous ocean which surrounded Pangaea was accordingly named Panthalassa.

Earthquakes, cyclones, floods and landslides, heat waves, storms, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions,Tsunami are the reasons of this image, the world as we know it right now.

No matter if it seems as a «natural continuation» for the earth, yet we call them natural disasters. But,what is a «natural disaster»?how does it affect the human nation?

A natural disasteris defined as a hazard which occurs naturally, that is a disaster that is not brought about by acts of human beings. A natural disaster might be caused by earthquakes, flooding, volcanic eruption, landslide, etc. In order to be classified as a disaster it will have profound environmental effect and/or human loss and frequently incurs financial loss.

According to an article posted in Science Illustrated in Greece (March 2011),there are areas in our planet which are  being affected more often by natural disasters than other places. In order to be more specific  i quote the article:

«In collaboration with the World Bank, a group of scientists from the U.S. Columbia University mapped the entire Earth criterion risk from natural disasters.  The researchers divided the land into smaller areas, based on data from the past 20 years, studied the risk of six different kinds of natural disasters: hurricanes, droughts, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and precipitation (rain, snow, hail).

It turned out that the most dangerous area to live to is Taiwan. There, 17 million people or 73% of the total population at risk from at least three kinds of natural disasters. In particular, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods are common phenomena in Taiwan.

Approximately 1 / 5 of Earth’s surface is threatened constantly by at least one natural disaster, and to the extent that live more than half the population of the planet. According to a UN report, about 1.8 million people have died due to natural disasters over the past 20 years. On average, these 247 deaths a day.»

It was the 11th of March in 2011,only 4 days ago when another disaster has shown up,this time in Japan in the area of Shendai.Still we don’t know the exact number of those who died but we do know that this is the begging of a serial disaster as the earthquake triggered tsunami warnings and evacuations for Japan’s Pacific coast and at least 20 countries, including the entire Pacific coast of North and South America from Alaska to Chile. Most of the damage and destruction occurred along the Pacific coastline of Japan’s northern islands, with relatively minor effects elsewhere around the Pacific.

Katsushika Hokusai ( October or November 1760 – May 10, 1849)

So are we arrogantly believe  that Earth is taking vengeance for our irresponsible acting all these years,or is just getting older and it’s time once again to change her shape as she always does??
